When food is disposed of in landfills it becomes a source of methane, which is a greenhouse gas with twenty-one more times the global warming potential of carbon. When they say watch what you eat, also watch what you do with leftovers. Food waste ends up wasting almost a quarter out of our water supply in the form of uneaten food equaling to one hundred and seventy-two billion in wasted water. Not knowing what to do with eaten food causes a lot of needless hunger and huge economic losses. Basically, food from grocery stores such as produce and close to being expired box foods and cans can go to food pantries and the homeless and persons living with low incomes. But where does the food go? There needs to be a better waste system before we are living in the waste and have nowhere to go.
